Job Requirements/Description

The University of Strathclyde is seeking an Insurance Manager to act as the key University advisor and principal specialist on all insurance-related matters. The University is a large and complex organisation with a diverse range of insurable risks and this new role has been created in response to the growth in the scale and complexity of the University’s activities and changes in the external risk environment.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance for Financial Management and Reporting, you will be responsible for providing a professional insurance advisory service to all staff and students on wide-ranging insurance matters, including available cover, risk management and claims handling. You will manage the insurance portfolio and the University’s relationship with its insurers, covering all aspects of University business within the UK and worldwide.

Working closely with the Office of Chief Compliance Officer, you will regularly review and maintain policies always ensuring that appropriate coverage is in place to address the diverse range of institutional activities and risk profile. This role will involve regular communication with a wide range of external and internal stakeholders including our insurers, loss adjustors, third-party solicitors, the academic community and professional services colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

You should be a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, qualified to level 3 or above and have substantial experience in a claims or insurance programme management environment, working with an insurance company, commercial broker, or in a similar corporate, Higher Education, or Public Sector insurance management role.

The successful candidate should be a flexible individual who uses their initiative and will be expected to embrace all aspects of the role and adapt insurance cover, policies and procedures to meet continuing business changes. Knowledge of the Higher Education sector would be desirable but is not essential. Enthusiasm, commitment, and strong collaborative interpersonal skills coupled with a high level of problem-solving and decision-making will make the role a success.
