Operations Manager (Food Manufacturing)

About the Role:
Based at our site in Glenbervie working Monday to Friday you will report into the Operations Director. The role of Operations Manager is to effectively manage Product, Plant and People, with the latter focused on managing through shift team leaders.
In addition, you will mentor, support and develop the shift team leader population.
You will be the driver of continuous improvement, safety, quality and cost reduction for the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the management and coordination of department operations.
- Effectively deliver excellent communications and team engagement.
- Coach Shift leader(s) in the planning and scheduling of production.
- Develop and nurture skills development, training, and manage skills and competency records throughout production.
- Manage area headcount, grades and budget spends.
- Lead department projects and initiatives.
- Improve the safety performance of the department by addressing physical issues while promoting a positive safety culture/attitude among staff.
- Encourage and drive incident reporting at target levels.
- Ensure Health and Safety requirements are met in accordance with company policy, procedures, practices, and legislation.
- Monitor and drive improvements against Health & Safety KPIs.
- Ensure food safety, legality, and quality requirements are met.
- Maintain and improve hygiene, food safety, and GMP of the department.
- Ensure product quality standards are consistently achieved.
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are relevant, up to date, and in use.
- Manage the department to minimise cost through effective utilisation of manpower, materials, and equipment.
- Monitor/manage performance against KPIs.
- Work across the operation team to deliver improvements against budget in downtime, efficiency, yield, quality, Health & Safety, and absence.
- Gather and expedite information from various sources/parties.
- Formulate business continuity plans within the production function.
- Manage area headcount, grades, and budget spends.
- Support and drive root cause problem solving and Continuous Improvement activities (5S, Six Sigma, SMED).
- Coordinate and control the manufacturing processes to maximize product quality and output.
- Ensure all internal and external data protection requirements are strictly adhered to within your area of responsibility.
- Report any observed or direct breaches of data protection following the correct company protocol.
- Work within company policy as outlined in the Handbook.
About You – Experience and Qualifications:
- HND or bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in subjects such as Business Management.
- Logistics, Materials Technology, Industrial Technology, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in production and manufacturing processes and techniques, preferably in food or related business.
- Lean Practitioner – Green/Black belt desirable, but not essential.
- HACCP related qualification is desirable, but not essential.
- IOSH H&S qualification desirable, but not essential.
- FMCG experience preferred.
- Leadership and mentoring skills.
