About the role

We are looking for a passionate and proactive Ranger to join our team at Hanningfield Reservoir, offering a fantastic opportunity for someone who truly loves fishing and enjoys working in a unique outdoor environment. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, delivering excellent customer service, and helping to create a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.

As a Ranger, you will play a key part in supporting the management and upkeep of leisure services across the reservoir. This will include carrying out regular inspections of site assets, ensuring facilities are maintained to a high standard, and helping to create a safe environment for members of the public. You will take an active role in enforcing Essex & Suffolk fishing rules and regulations, making this a particularly rewarding position for someone with a genuine interest in angling and the outdoors.

The role is hands-on and varied, involving the use of a range of tools and machinery such as strimmers, brush cutters and lawnmowers to maintain the site. You will also support water-based activities where required, including operating the safety boat, with full training provided towards a powerboat licence and first aid certification.

Alongside this, you will support the day-to-day running of the on-site retail outlet, including using the till system, stocking products and carrying out cash handling responsibilities such as cashing up.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is confident using Microsoft Office, customer management systems, and day-to-day communication tools such as mobile devices and radios. You will be comfortable handling both verbal and written customer interactions, with the ability to prepare clear reports, statements, and contribute to regular angling statistics. You will be motivated and results-driven, with a flexible approach to your work and the ability to manage tasks both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential, alongside the confidence to make sound judgements, approach situations with professionalism, and build positive relationships with customers and colleagues. You will be customer focused, ethical in your approach, and open to learning, with a willingness to undertake further training.
