Job Requirements/Description

Salary range: £37,694 - £46,049

FTE: 1.0 (35 hours per week)

Term: Open

Closing date: 1 June 2026

As part of the Disability and Wellbeing Team, and reporting to the Early Intervention Team Leader, you will play a key role in providing timely, responsive psychological support to students experiencing distress, risk, and personal difficulties.

Working five days per week, you will deliver same-day, short-term individual interventions to students presenting with a wide range of concerns, including high levels of distress and suicidal ideation. You will be an experienced practitioner, confident in conducting early assessment and intervention where risk is present, and in making safe, appropriate onward referrals to internal or external services when required.

The role involves providing single-session interventions, brief counselling, and short reviews; applicants should have experience of working within a single-session or brief therapeutic model. Strong clinical judgement, clear documentation, and effective multidisciplinary working are essential.

You will be an accredited counsellor (or actively working towards accreditation) with a recognised professional body, and you will receive regular professional supervision. You will practise within the ethical framework of your professional body and in accordance with university policies, strategies, and regulatory requirements.

This is a permanent, full-time, on-campus role. Due to the student-facing and immediate nature of early-intervention work, this post is not suitable for remote or online working.
