The Role:

The Space Learning and Development Training Associate Manager will oversee and manage the development and delivery of Space training programmes that build skills, capability, and career pathways across the organisation. This role plays a key part in shaping how colleagues develop within the Space domain, ensuring high-quality learning experiences that support both early careers and experienced professionals. The programmes span satellite training courses, internal Space learning catalogues, modern and graduate apprenticeships, and the Space competency framework.

This is a high-impact role with responsibility for leading a diverse team, engaging a wide range of stakeholders, and continuously improving how learning is designed and delivered. It offers the opportunity to influence the future of Space capability within the organisation while working at the forefront of training innovation and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a diverse team responsible for Space training and development programmes
  • Oversee delivery of key learning initiatives, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and schedule expectations
  • Engage and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across technical and business functions
  • Champion new approaches to learning, adopting a growth mindset and embracing emerging training methods and technologies
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Learning & Development within the Space business area
  • Ensure alignment and integration across the satellite course catalogue, internal Space training offerings, apprenticeships, and competency frameworks
  • Drive continuous improvement across all training and development activities.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Strong understanding of training methodologies, including the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT)
  • Experience in designing and developing technical training solutions and competency frameworks
  • Understanding of apprenticeship schemes and early careers development pathways
  • Passion for learning design, delivery, and the application of modern learning technologies
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and a proactive approach to continuous improvement

Desired skills:
  • Experience within the Space or wider aerospace/defence sector
  • Background in engineering or a technically focused discipline
  • Experience conducting Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
  • Familiarity with Defence instructional and training standards
