Design Manager - Sub

We are looking for a high-caliber Design Manager to lead the engineering delivery for one of our most significant large-scale substation projects. This isn't just about overseeing drawings; it's about managing the technical heartbeat of a critical infrastructure asset. You will be the bridge between complex electrical engineering, civil constraints, and client expectations.

As the Design Manager, you will take full ownership of the design lifecycle-from initial concept and FEED through to detailed design and construction support. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure that technical solutions are safe, buildable, and fully integrated.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee Primary and Secondary electrical design, ensuring integration with civil and structural elements.
• Resolve technical "clashes" between HV equipment, protection systems, and site infrastructure.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, DNOs/TSOs, and specialist subcontractors.
• Drive "Safety by Design" principles, ensuring all outputs meet Scottish Power standards and CDM regulations.
• Ensure design milestones are met to allow for the procurement of long-lead items (Transformers, GIS, etc.).

Requirements:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
• Proven track record managing design for large-scale substations (typically 132kV, 275kV, or 400kV).
• Familiarity with BIM workflows and Common Data Environments (CDE).
• The ability to challenge a design choice while maintaining strong relationships with the engineering team.
